Origami # 1 (11) 1998

Our Drawing room

Philip Nobel

Many origami artists are fond of playing with a string ring. They are united in an International String Figure Assosiation (ISFA). A Japanese mathematician Hiroshi Noguchi and an English missionary Philip Nobel established it in 1978. We were lucky to meet Philip in person. From our point of view he is an unusual priest. Besides discussing religious subjects he entertains audience by showing different tricks, making funny figures from a string and wearing a clown dress. Recently he has published the Fool of Kingdom book where he shares his experience of clownery. His inner freedom is admirable! Can you imagine a Russian priest who folds figures out of paper? Well, Philip is good at it! During our meeting he told us a story illustrating it by showing a trick with a string.
