"Live Your Life Forever"
This album is just great! Of course, John Lawton’s voice is instantly recognizable, and the great guitar work, which reminds me of the likes of Randy Rhodes and Yngwie Malmsteen, generally fits into the overall German power-metal feel of the album, although there are some more mid-tempo songs there as well. "Heart of a night" is a very energetic opener; John is hitting some really high notes in "Live Your Life Forever" and "Lost Son of the King", which reminds me of R.J.Dio's "Last In Line"; "Cry of a Nile" is one of fastest songs with a great guitar solo, one of highlights; "Look of Your eyes" is a beautiful ballad, which could easily fit in on any Lawton-era Heep album; "She's A Liar" is probably the closest fit for Lawton's original bluesy vocal style, and, finally, "Fire And Ice" (NOT the Malmsteen song!) is another great speed metal track, IMHO on the same level as some of the best songs by Helloween and Gamma Ray; in other words, they truly kept the best for last! It makes me ponder upon just how versatile a singer John Lawton really is: he sounded great on Heep’s rockiest tacks, Lucifer's Friend’s sophisticated jazz-rock songs; sang some pop tunes with Les Humphries Signers, with ease, and then proved himself as an amazing power-metal singer! I only could wish he could stay with that undoubtedly talented band for more that just one short recording session. Vladimir Milovidov |
